Bettina Seitz is a German-born visual artist living in the North-West of Ireland. She works across sculpture, installation, and film. Recently she is exploring these through filming temporary, site-responsive sculpture installations engaging with landscape, history, and mythology. In her hollow sculptures cast over life models the absence of the figure resonates a ghost-like human presence while evoking associations with the past and otherness at the same time. Materials for her sculptures range from natural wax, recycled fabrics, clay, Jesmonite to concrete and bronze.
Seitz studied sculpture at the Freie Kunstakademie Nürtingen in Germany and graduated from the Accademia Albertina di Belle Arti in Turin, Italy. She has exhibited her work widely and worked on many public and private art commissions both in Ireland and internationally. Recent projects include Underwave at The Complex, Dublin (2024); Monk for Tread Softly 2024 at the Hamilton Gallery, Sligo; Ancestors, broadcast by Tread Softly and RTE (2021); Underwave, broadcast by Tread Softly (2020). Awards include Arts Council of Ireland Commissions Award (for Monk, 2023), Platform 31 (Association of Local Authority Arts Offices (ALAAO) with the Arts Council of Ireland, 2022), Arts Council of Ireland Agility Awards (2021, 2022, 2023).
