Living in separate worlds, a young and older women are connected. They are intertwined, yet unaware of each other’s existence. A case of entanglement! Then, through experiences that bring them ‘out of body’, each falls through a crack in their own reality emerging into a world that sits outside the everyday. A place as high as the clouds and as deep as the ocean floor, where all things are brought into balance. Here they meet a Danu like figure who helps them connect, to each other, and to a deeper understanding of all they share.

The performance is devised by Kate Wilson in collaboration with performers Robin Cara, Isolde Brolchain Carmody, Lianne Quigley, Darren Byrne and Jenny Tufts. Processes are supported by dramaturg Jean Marie Perinetti.

An exploration of the paradox of hyper-visibility for women both at the cusp of adulthood and the cusp of menopause it explores methods for resisting society’s constructed images of young and older women, and of able and disabled bodies. â€‹â€‹â€‹â€‹

Seeking new frames for femininity Between Earth and Sky is funny, fierce, surreal, irreverent, touching and at times painfully real. A show that ignites the imagination with large scale projections, and its beautiful play between dance, aerial and storytelling.

This small diverse, integrated cast of aerial, dance and theatre performers with ages ranging from 20 to 50 share experiences at times markedly parallel and at others disparate, as they ask how much has really changed for women from one generation to the next?

Project research was named CUSP and took place in 2023 & 2024. It was supported by Ballina Arts Centre, Galway Dance Project and Arts Council bursary and agility awards. Project development for Between Earth & Sky is supported by Arts Council Ireland and includes sound by Aoife Hammond, lighting design by Michael Cummins and projections by Milo Cummins.
