Storm Shore is one of a series of paintings I created for a 2024 exhibition Tide and Ties,Remembering the Spanish Armada. I created the paintings out on the Streedagh foreshore
around Staid Abbey, attempting to encapsulate and evoke the sparse, unforgiving environment survivors of the Armada must have experienced struggling onto the Sligo shore.
Martina Hamilton graduated in Fine Art – Sculpture, from IT Sligo (ATU) in 1986. She has been a contemporary Irish Jewellery Designer and goldsmith since 1989. Martina returned to painting and sculpture in 2022. “Because of my training as a sculptor and experience
working in both clay and metal it seems natural to me to use the textures created with a pallet knife to mark down the colour, movement, and form of the landscape. I am fortunate that where I live the landscape and climate are in constant energetic engagement and swift changes of mood, which suits the energy I feel when painting.”
